Sámi logo Some background information on the Sámi people: The Sámi are the indigenous people of the north of the Scandinavian peninsula, and live in an area stretching from northern Norway to the Kola peninsula in Russia, commonly known as "Lapland". The economy of the Sámi is mainly based on reindeer farming, fishing, hunting and handicraft. Statistics show average population figures of 25,000 Sámi living in Norway, 17,000 in Sweden, 4,000 in Finland and 2,000 living in Russia. Additional info can be found here.
